Sergio Ramos

Sergio Ramos was born on March 30th, 1986. He plays the position of defender on the Real Madrid football team. He has been with the team since 2005 and done extremely well. His career began in 1996 though with Sevilla who he was with until he joined the Real Madrid team.

Sergio Ramos had a love of the game from a very early age. He played the sport as a youth but while most of his friends thought of it as fun he knew that was what he was born to do. He had the drive to become a professional player from a very early age. While many were discouraging about it he wasn’t about to give up. His hard work though paid off and he was able to become one of the best at a very early age.

You will find Sergio Ramos as a right back most of the time on the field. Yet you never want to underestimate his versatility. He has also been a key central defender as well. He credits the core of the Sevilla youth system for helping him to develop his discipline and skills for the game. He was able to successfully gain his first cap when he was only 18 years old. This was a huge accomplishment and opened the door for many opportunities with the game of football. He didn’t know though just how much until the offer from Real Madrid materialized.

Record shows that the Real Madrid really thought that Sergio Ramos was going to be a benefit to them. They paid a substantial amount of money for him in 2005. He is also the only player that Real Madrid President Florentino Perez brought in that season. He didn’t disappoint either with a goal in December of 2005 that allowed the Real Madrid to take the win over Merengues.

There have been numerous games that Sergio Ramos has been able to make vital scores in. Therefore it was no surprise to anyone when he was named to the FIFA and UEFA Team of the Year in 2008. He was also noted to be the 21st listing for players according to the European Player of the Year nominations.

Real Madrid has four captains and at the beginning of the season for 2009 to 2010 he was appointed to one of those prestigious positions. Sergio Ramos was asked to step in for Pepe who was dealing with a knee injury that was very serious. In February of 2010 he was able to play his 200th match.

There have been some tough games though Sergio Ramos admits. For example in November of 2010 Real Madrid was defeated 0 to 5 by FC Barcelona. However, he has also become a great role model to the entire team when it comes to defeat. He always has words of encouragement, optimism, and the ability to learn from the mistakes that can take place during a game.

That is part of the reason why he has been starting in every single game. The manager of the team believes that Sergio Ramos has what it takes to really drive this football team to success. He knows that this is a player that gives 100% for all practices and during a game. There isn’t anything more that he can ask for.

While there are quite a few teams out there that would love to have Sergio Ramos on their team he is more than content as a defender for the Real Madrid team. He feels it is an honor to be with them and plans to stay put. Many expect great things from him as well as the rest of the team.
