Pepe
Pepe
Kepler Laveran Lima Ferreira is more commonly known in the game of football as Pepe. He is a center back for the Real Madrid team. His youth career lasted from 1995 to 2001. Then he began a senior career with the Maritimo team until 2004.
In 2003 to 2004 season Pepe was approved to train with the Sporting Club de Portugal for a period of 2 weeks this was so that he would be able to transfer but in the end it didn’t happen.
It wasn’t anything to do with his playing of the game though. Instead, it stemmed from a problem with the negotiations process between the two teams so he returned to the Maritimo team. Pepe also played for the Porto team from 2004 to 2007. Since that time though he has been part of the Real Madrid team as a central defender.
Pepe was born on February 26, 1983 and has loved the game of football since he can remember. To many the skill and the speed he had were natural so when you matched them with the passion he has for the game it is no wonder he is considered one of the most dangerous opponents in the game.
Every team he has played football for has considered him to be a wonderful asset. He has been able to fill in for other positions too. While his strength is definitely in the role of a central defender he is also very good playing other defensive positions and being a midfielder. The ability to play in many areas has only made him more of an asset to his team.
Pepe often credits coach Victor Fernandez as someone that helped him to become the best player he could. He feels that is how he was able to move into a starting position when he had been a backup previously. He felt that Fernandez helped him to perfect his style and also to allow him to gain more personal confidence in his abilities to play football.
Pepe in the Real Madrid
In March of 2008 Pepe had a remarkable game against Deportivo de La Coruna. The game was very intense and his efforts allowed Real Madrid to win by a score of 1 to 0. At the end of 2008 there was some controversy with him when a fight brought out at training. He wasn’t getting along with a teammate by the name of Javier Balboa.
Pepe frequent injuries
The 2008 to 2009 season was also tough on Pepe due to many injuries. Some of them were due to fighting with opponents though and that also caused him to be banned for a period of 10 games. Later when he returned his suffered from a very serious knee injury.
The recovery has been time consuming but Pepe is optimistic. He believes he will be able to be stronger than ever for the 2010 to 2011 season. Many of his fans are eagerly waiting to see what he can do. They know that the Real Madrid is a strong team but that they also need this great player to be in the game rather than on the sidelines.
The contract that Pepe signed with Real Madrid in 2007 is valid for a period of 5 years. The way that he has been playing and the success of the team though indicates that they will likely be offering him an extension of this contact when it comes up for renewal. The only problem that some see is if he ends up with injuries during the current season. Yet we don’t have a crystal ball that allows us to see what will happen.
