Mesut Özil

Mesut Özil was born October 15, 1988. He is a player on the football team called Real Madrid. His well known nickname is the new Diego. Anyone that has followed this sport for years knows about the great player Diego Ribas da Cunha. Many believe this guy is going to be able to follow in the huge footsteps that were put there by the great Diego.

Mesut Özil also plays for the German National Team. He began playing as a youth member in 2006. He was playing for FC Schalke as a midfielder and he proudly wore the #11. Many believed that he would take on a leadership role here and help the team to be better than it had been in a long time.

He did make many great contributions both to the players and to the team on the field. Yet Mesut Özil was looking for something more to help him continue to be challenged with the game. In 2008 he signed with Werder Bremen. With a contract that was to last until June of 2011. Yet as you will find out he didn’t get to play for them quite that long. When someone like Mesut Özil is out there it is common for other teams to want to take over where they are playing.

He was highly respected in this organization and had some amazing games. There were several times when Mesut Özil was able to win the game for his team and that put him heavily into the spotlight. They were ranked as a team #3 when the second season that he played for them ended. They weren’t even in the top #10 before he and a few other great players joined so that was something that generated a great deal of excitement.

Mesut Özil was credited with one of the best performances ever at the 2010 FIFA World Cup. While he went in as a good player there was no doubt when the game was over that he was going to be a huge success as a starter for a very long time to come. The volume of interest that was coming his way was just getting started.

In the 2010 FIFA World Cup Mesut Özil was nominated for the Golden Ball Award. This is a huge honor as that award is given to the best player in the tournament. He transferred to Real Madrid in August of 2010. The transfer fees that this organization paid for him were astronomical. Yet they felt they had no choice but to secure him as part of their organization.

Real Madrid has always been a top contender due to the range of talent that they have on their team. At the same time they also have been able pay the large sums of money it takes to get many of these players out of contracts with other teams. That means that they make their team stronger while also taking away the potential for others to be a huge rivalry for them. Such a great strategy is one that has given them the freedom to really do well in the game of football.

The future is one that seems very bright and full of excitement for the young player at this point in time. Mesut Özil has been a leader for the Real Madrid team as well. This is something that has only further secured his value of the team. Right now he is under a five year contract. There are stipulations in it though that would offer an extension as long as his playing continues to be more of what he has offered up to this point in time.
