Lassana Diarra
Lassana Diarra
Lassana Diarra was born on March 10, 1985. He is currently a football player for the highly prestigious Real Madrid team. He is a defensive midfielder but he has also been placed in the field as a right backer. His story is one that is very different than other players.
While Lassana Diarra had a sincere love of the game and a desire to play, he was turned down by several teams. Yet he didn’t allow that to discourage him from his dream of playing at the senior level. Instead, he got some one on one instruction and coaching to help him make significant improvements to what he could offer.
The biggest problem was that Lassana Diarra was small and he was on the lighter side though. These were hard problems to overcome when the teams wanted taller players and those that had more weight to help them get through the line on the field. He played for a few years at FC Nantes and then Le Mans UC but he really felt that neither team cared about him much at all.
Lassana Diarra Early Years
If you ask Lassana Diarra when his career began he will tell you it was when he went to Le Havre. He was very dominate in his role and took the game seriously. It didn’t take long for him to impress some of the top eyes in the game. They felt at that point that this player had much more to offer than he was able to in his current role.
In July of 2005 Chelsea signed him and he was very happy about that. He played for them in the 2005 to 2006 season but didn’t see nearly as much play time as he or his fans would have liked to have seen. However, he was given a chance to play on various occasions when his team was up by a few points on the other team. In the last two games of that season he was able to play the entire games from start to finish.
What should have really been a starting block though was a place he became frozen in time. Early in the 2006 to 2007 season he was sidelined due to an injury. Many believe this is why Chelsea chose to transfer Lassana Diarra to Arsenal before his contract expired. This transfer occurred in August of 2007.
Lassana Diarra transfer to Real Madrid
By January of 2008 he was yet again transferred to another team. This time he would join Portsmouth. It was in December of 2008 though that they announced Real Madrid had made a substantial offer for Lassana Diarra. He played his first game for them in January of 2009.
In January of 2011 Lassana Diarra was reported as either wanting to leave the Real Madrid team or being let go. However, his agent has confirmed that he plans to stay. Even if he has to fight to prove himself and to keep a starting position on the team he is ready to do so. Fans that have loved watching him in action are very relieved to hear this information.
They don’t want to see him leave as they know he has been an amazing part of the success for this team. His contract remains in place through 2013 yet the big question is if he will be a starter again or not. He has been replaced for now in that position by Sami Khedira. Lassana Diarra did start in the first game of the 2010 to 2011 season though which is a good indicator that the team feels he still has what it takes to be in a starting position.
