Gonzalo Higuaín was born December 10, 1987. While he was born in France, he was able to obtain citizenship for Argentine in 2007. He is now considered to have dual Nationality. For the Real Madrid football team he is a powerful striker. He also plays as part of the Argentine National Team.

His father Jorge was also a great legend in the game of football. From an early age Gonzalo Higuaín expressed his desire to follow in those same paths. He loved to watch his father play the game. The two of them spent many afternoons watching games, playing the game, and talking about the ways to make a significant presence in the game be known.

Gonzalo Higuaín started with the youth teams in May of 2005 with the River Plate team. It wasn’t until February of 2006 though that he is credited with scoring his first goal. Even so, from early on he was a key player for his team and he started just about every game that he played in for them. Gonzalo Higuaín and the Real Madrid

In December of 2006 Real Madrid signed Gonzalo Higuaín to a contract to play with the seniors. Many believe that the team went after him and took him from River Plate but that isn’t true. In fact, River Plate turned down the chance to sign him to a senior contract. The coaching at the time said that they didn’t have the money to invest in him as they didn’t need him. They had plenty of starters already that were doing exceptionally well.

That was a decision that River Plate would soon come to regret though. Gonzalo Higuaín has been an outstanding player for Real Madrid. The sting of not keeping him when they had the opportunity to do so is one that continues to haunt the club even after so much time has passed.

Gonzalo Higuaín played his first game for the Real Madrid in January of 2007 against Real Betis. This was in the second round of the Copa del Rey. He was able to assist with various plays and helped get a score during this game. It was evident to all that he was definitely going to fit right in with this courageous team of astonishing players.

When you look at the numbers from that first season he didn’t get too many goals of his own. Yet the coach knew that Gonzalo Higuaín did play a big role in making those goals happen. That is what kept him using this player in a starting position. Later on in the season he was able to win a game against RCD Espanyol by getting a goal so they could win 4 to 3.

The Future of Gonzalo Higuaín

The contract between Real Madrid and Gonzalo Higuaín was extended in 2010 for another six years and signed in June. However, in December of the same year Gonzalo Higuaín was diagnosed with a herniated disc which was going to require operating. The surgery took place in January of 2011 and went very well.

Gonzalo Higuaín is estimated to need four months off the field to make a complete recovery. He will start training in March and April and then be able to rejoin practicing with the team in May as long as the doctors release him to do so. Gonzalo Higuaín has the support of his team and his family during this recovery period. The coach for Real Madrid is confident that he will come back with the same vigor and talent that he had before the surgery.
